“What do a fully renovated 1920’s Dutch colonial, a certified kitchen and bath designer, and a licensed builder have in common? Put them together and they add up to the luxurious Prairieside Suites, where owners Cheri and Paul Antozak help you live a life of luxury by creating a unique bed and breakfast experience.
Cheri, the designer, and Paul, the builder worked together to make Cheri’s dream of owning a bed and breakfast retreat a reality. Grandville’s first and only B&B opened its doors in April 2002, seven years after the Antozaks purchased it. The entire home, which covered an amazing 2,800-square-feet on the main floor alone was renovated to create luxury “get away” spaces out of four individual apartments. The traditional design and luxurious decor exude an atmosphere of warmth and indulgence, inviting guests to relax and forget the outside world. As soon as you step through the front door you are welcomed by smiling faces and hometown hospitality.
The foyer features polished oak moldings and an open staircase with double banisters. The Gathering Room is the perfect spot to curl up with a magazine on the cozy seating area in front of the sun filled bay window. Lavish tapestry sofas and damask wallpaper create a peaceful atmosphere. Cherry furnishings add a touch of timelessness. Underfoot, the sea green tiles lead you to the adjoining English country kitchen where cream colored cabinets surround the island table where you can enjoy a cup of hot tea, coffee, or cocoa, and munch on Cheri’s delicious homemade cookies anytime of day or night.
The dining room features Cheri’s antique crystal collection displayed in the nine-foot china cabinet across from an immense and magnificent fireplace mantle. Alongside the ‘Virginia Galleries’ dining table sits a matching colonial Williamsburg sideboard and Queen Ann chairs.
Cheri’s attention to detail shows in the award-winning rooms that have been featured in brochures and national design magazines. She invites you to ‘step out of your own life briefly and experience something different.’
The English Cottage is decorated in cottage-style, with the theme of English country accented with arts and crafts furnishings. It features a delicately scrolled iron bed with floral duvet in butter cream, pink, and federal blue – colors that re repeated on the walls, in the drapes, and in the wall hangings.
The Tuscan Villa, with mission-style overtones, reminds one of a visit to the Tuscany region of Italy. Rich green and bronze tones prevail in a modern Shaker-style bed, appointed with a sumptuous floral duvet and silky soft bed linens. A full-sized couch and table for two provide comfortable seating.
In the Southern Mansion, the Georgian Colonial style is patterned after the opulent mansions of the Deep South. A handmade maple four-poster bed and matching armoire showcase the artistry that is echoed in the hardwood floors with cherry inlay boarder. Deep suede-blue walls are topped with cream-colored crown molding. Georgian columns with cornices at top and bottom surround the whirlpool bath, and a stunning antique crystal chandelier illuminates the marble tub deck.
All suites feature king-sized beds with lush linens and private baths. Each bedroom includes: air conditioning, ceiling fan, entertainment center with CD player, cable TV/VCR/DVD, and beverage center with coffeemaker, microwave, and refrigerator. As an added bonus, you receive an ice-cold soda in your in-room refrigerator upon arrival!
Each room features a Jacuzzi tub with private bath including robes, hair dryer, and heated towel bars; the Tuscan Villa & Southern Mansion each have fireplaces and an oversized two-person Jacuzzi tub. The Tuscan Villa & English Cottage have executive business centers complete with wraparound desk, office supplies, phone, fax, copier, and high-speed cable Internet connection. (Note: These suites no longer have these buiness features and are now geared more towards romance.)
All rooms look out on the lovely residential neighborhood nestled along Prairie Street, the inspiration for the inn’s name in this ‘All American City.’ During the summer months, take a dip in the heated pool with waterfall, feast your eyes on the colorful perennial gardens and water fountain from the double glider swing in the pergola, or bird watch from a hammock under the shady canopy of the inn’s three-hundred-year-old oak tree. In the winter, make popcorn and unwind in the comfort of your room while enjoying a movie from the inn’s library, featuring over three hundred titles.
Breakfast is customized to suit individual needs. In order to provide you with the optimum dining experience, information regarding any food allergies you may have and your vegetable preferences will be requested when you reserve your room. A full breakfast might consist of fresh fruit, juice & muffins, followed by French toast with homemade strawberry sauce, and deluxe eggs (veggies/ham/cheese) with salsa on the side. For the business traveler or guest who likes to sleep in, a continental breakfast of muffin, yogurt, and juice is available in your in-room fridge. For those who prefer the privacy of their own room, in-room service of a full breakfast is available.
‘We feel privileged to be able to provide the perfect setting for our guests to celebrate any special occasion,’ says Cheri. That’s why they offer additional pampering with room service and your choice of amenities; a bouquet of cut flowers for yourself or a special companion; a scrumptious meat, cheese and cracker platter for two; a tempting, decorated cake for any occasion; French vanilla cappuccino with homemade biscotti; milk and warm freshly baked cookies; or a soothing in-room massage (we now have a special massage room available).
Choose to cocoon in your private oasis, or take in Lake Michigan’s beaches, local art galleries, the ballet, live theater, Frederick Meijer Gardens, or the Grand Rapids Symphony, all within a thirty minute drive. Activities within five minutes of your home-away-from-home include shopping, restaurants, movie theaters, and biking/walking trails. Whether you stay in or go out, you will be uplifted by the combination of beauty, luxury, and personal service found at Prairieside Suites Luxury Bed & Breakfast.”
